Fallback when AI fails.
Keep agreed essential functions available through provider outages, timeouts and rate limits. Anything outside the fallback’s safe boundary is queued, escalated or handled by a person.
Fallback designMACHINE LEARNING ALTERNATIVE
When an AI service times out, hits a limit or becomes too expensive, the workflow behind it should not simply stop. MLALT maps and engineers lighter alternatives that can take over the work that matters.
Audit first. Clear technical map. Build only if it makes sense.
WHAT MLALT DOES
A true Machine Learning Alternative. It starts by isolating the job currently being handed to generative AI, then separating the parts that genuinely need a large model from the parts that do not.
Those bounded tasks can often be handled by focused machine learning, deterministic software, structured retrieval or a combination of them. The result can sit behind your existing AI as a fallback, absorb predictable traffic as a lower-resource route, or replace the external call for a tightly defined feature.
This can be applied to a single function on a small site or introduced service-by-service across a larger platform. The architecture changes; the principle does not: keep essential capability available without making every request depend on the same external AI service.
Machine learning is part of AI. “Alternative” here means a true alternative to your current AI functionality.
THREE MLALT PATHS
The audit determines which path fits the workload, the available data and the best way to reach alternative viability.
Keep agreed essential functions available through provider outages, timeouts and rate limits. Anything outside the fallback’s safe boundary is queued, escalated or handled by a person.
Fallback designSend predictable, bounded requests to a lighter execution path and reserve expensive AI calls for work that actually needs them. Routing can consider confidence, latency, capacity and cost.
Routing and load balancingWhere a feature is sufficiently defined and testable, rebuild it as focused ML or conventional software and remove the external generative-AI call from that part of the system.
Replacement suitabilityFROM ONE FEATURE TO A PLATFORM
MLALT is scoped around the business function, not the size of the codebase. These are typical candidate workloads.
Single feature
Classify requests, assign a queue and surface approved help content without spending a generative call on every message.
Website enquiries, support inboxes, internal service desks.
Business workflow
Extract known fields, validate expected formats and flag low-confidence cases for review.
Invoices, intake forms, orders and repeatable document flows.
Customer-facing
Keep structured retrieval and ranking available even when generated answers are degraded or unavailable.
Product catalogues, help centres, internal knowledge search.
Operational
Use bounded classification or scoring for prioritisation, routing and exception handling with defined thresholds.
Ticket priority, duplicate detection, anomaly flags.
Automation
Separate deterministic business actions from generated suggestions so the core process can continue safely when AI is unavailable.
CRM updates, order administration, approval flows.
Complex system
Map AI dependencies across APIs, workers, queues and internal services, then introduce alternative paths in controlled stages.
SaaS platforms, integration layers, distributed operations.
Custom applications or mixed stacks are assessed thoroughly. MLALT does not require an automatic rebuild of the surrounding system.
AUDIT FIRST
The first deliverable is a technical decision map: what can move, what should stay, what it will take and how to prove it works.
SYSTEM AUDIT
$499 USD / one-off
A technical review of one agreed system or workflow. The audit traces how AI is used today, where it can fail, what can be moved to MLALT and what the alternative needs to operate safely.
The standard audit covers one agreed system or workflow. Large estates are scoped before payment.
OPTIONAL IMPLEMENTATION
Separately scoped & quoted
Use the implementation map with your own team or have MLALT build it. The audit stands on its own; there is no subscription and no obligation to continue.
Build work, hosting, external services and ongoing support are quoted separately.
ENGINEERING, NOT HAND-WAVING
Baseline the current system, define acceptable behaviour and test the alternative on representative inputs. Cost, latency and quality claims should come from your traffic, not a borrowed benchmark.
More than 15 years of development experience across PHP, WordPress and systems design informs the work. The review covers code paths, dependencies, failure modes and business rules—not only the model call.
Start with architecture notes and redacted examples where possible. Deeper access is agreed only when the scope requires it, with the purpose and handling boundaries defined first.
KNOWLEDGEBASE
COMMON QUESTIONS
No. A system can use MLALT as a fallback, a lower-resource route or a permanent replacement for a bounded feature. The audit decides which is appropriate.
Yes. The same method can be applied to one feature on a small site or introduced in stages across a multi-service platform. The $499 audit covers one agreed system or workflow.
Not by assumption. The target is an agreed business result with defined acceptance criteria. Some alternative paths may intentionally produce a simpler, more controlled output.
No. The written audit and implementation map are the deliverable. Implementation is a separate decision.
The delivery date is confirmed once the scope and required material are agreed. A small bounded workflow and a complex platform do not require the same depth of review.
START WITH THE DEPENDENCY
Show us where AI sits in the system, what it costs, and what breaks when it is unavailable. The audit starts there.
Email first. Technical context welcome.
